85 years after the first ballot for land allocations on 14 October 1930,
The Walpole Nornalup and District Historical Society Inc
organised a commemorative weekend 3-4 October 2015.

Between 350 and 400 people came to see the display at the Walpole Sport and Recreation Centre, where the Walpole Nornalup and District Historical Society Inc hosted the 85^th Anniversary and Reunion, to commemorate the development of Walpole through the Walpole Land Settlement Scheme.

The first ballot for land allocation to the pioneer settlers was held on 14 October 1930. A second ballot for land further north was held on 25 November 2015

Those who were successful in being allocated one of the 85 blocks are listed in the Society's publication:  "85 Years in the Making"..

Many past local residents returned to Walpole for the weekend and caught up with family and friends in a relaxed social atmosphere.

The Bow Bridge, Tingledale and Hazelvale (BTH) Ladies Group worked throughout Saturday morning and Sunday morning and afternoon serving morning and afternoon teas.

In addition, there was also a  Service of Thanksgiving  at the Anglican Church in Walpole.

Other special commemorative activities held that weekend included the 85^th Anniversary Trophy Golf Event won by Bob Laing. His trophy was presented at the  Walpole Country Club on the Sunday evening by the Society's Vice President at the time, Don Burton. There was also a special  WOW Wilderness cruise put on by Society Foundation Member and Past President Gary Muir. The Walpole and Districts Seniors Accommodation Inc held a Walpole 3D Art Award which was won by Society Life Member (awarded 19 June 2021) Thomas Gerner for his "Damascus Knife".
